Reviews
Airdance is a joy for the eye.
— Marja Landeweer, The Hauge
Welcome to the sexy, exhilarating, gravity-defying world of Brenda Angiel Aerial Dance Company. …The movements are so smooth and controlled, the dancers seem more like they are underwater…
— Natasha Gauthier, The Ottawa Citizen
She is the most choreographically inventive aerial dancer I have encountered. ...In a tango the results are spectacular: sensuous and breathtaking. …A truly festive experience...
— John Rockwell, New York Times
About Air Condition
For those of us who think of aerial dance in terms of circus, this show combines the energy and excitement of flying with the beauty and skill of modern dance. The creative idea deepens around the use and application of technology in aerial dance, creating new space and gravity illusions.
Brenda Angiel re-invents the tango and contemporary dance to achingly cool live soundtrack written specially for the show. The dancers break the boundaries, dancing against the walls, on the floor, and floating through the air, creating a kaleidoscope of movement and animation.
About Brenda Angiel
Brenda Angiel is Argentinian, born in Buenos Aires.
Her first works were seen in New York, at the Dance Theater Workshop, as part of the program "Fresh Tracks" (December 1990) and at The Kitchen (1991). In 1994 her search for new choreographic languages geared her toward the creation of movement of a new nature: Aerial Dance. Brenda has been called on on two occasions: by the Municipal Company of dances of Caxias do Sul (Brazil) for two of her works, and by the Ballet IUNA (National University Institute of Art). The American Dance Festival invited her as an international choreographer in 1997, 1998, and 2002, to create a masterwork. Part of her international career has also highlighted her choreographic creation for the Wired Aerial Theater in the city of Liverpool, England in 2008. Brenda founded the First Aerial Dance School in Buenos Aires, Argentina, where classes are taught for children, teenagers and adults. She is currently the Artistic Director of Ciudanza Festival of Dance in the Urban Landscape of Buenos Aires.
